Carlton Griggs and New Jersey’s Musical Heritage

As far as music goes, for such a small state New Jersey has been the birthplace of many famous musicians across genres. The most famous rockstar still living who was born and bred in the Garden State is Bruce Springsteen, ‘The Boss’, who was born in Long Branch, New Jersey in 1949. Springsteen has cited from an early age being musically inspired by a fellow New Jersey singer, Frank Sinatra. Sinatra was born in Hoboken to Italian parents, and grew up in the swing era where nearby musical events cultivated his music talent for years. Sinatra and Springsteen are now two of the best-selling artists of all time and are part of a long tradition of famous music talent that has come from New Jersey.

As a born and raised New Jersey citizen, Carlton Griggs’ hobbies include being a keen music fan from an early age, specifically rock and roll. He is a certified Mazda Sales Consultant, who has a degree in Business Management from Fairleigh University and has in the past been a successful landscape gardener. Like many fans of rock and roll, he thinks as a genre it has the ability to integrate generations of listeners. Its influence has sustained throughout the decades, and for many years and likely many more years to come it has provided catharsis through listening - and is a great way to release frustrations. This is as relevant for the 9-5 worker as it is to the angst ridden teenager.

Although Bruce Springsteen is certainly the first New Jersey rock musician that comes to mind, there have been many others that claim Garden State heritage, including Bon Jovi, My Chemical Romance, Sharon Van Etten, the Ramones’ drummer, and Patti Smith. Rock music has had a unique influence across cultures worldwide, from heavy metal to punk, classic rock to alternative rock, it has inspired emerging musicians to develop and expand their musical talents. New Jersey has been the proud host of many significant music events, the Giants Stadium, Asbury Park, and of course Atlantic City have been notable locations for performers.

As well as his musical interest, outside of his work Carlton Griggs and his football passion have also been noted. He has worked at Enterprise Rent-A-Car and Mazda, and has always loved cars - and driving to rock music is usually one the most cathartic of pastimes. Carlton Griggs and His Football Passion
